About the Region

Vinhos Verdes wine region is one of the most distinctive ones in Portugal. It is recognized for its humid and green landscape, and some say that the region’s name comes from its luxuriant vegetation.

The vineyards are scattered in several parcels, with higher concentration along the valleys of the main rivers. With an area of about 2400 hectares, the region’s soil is mainly granite which gives birth to wines with beautiful minerality and vibrant acidity.

Among the many existing grape varieties Alvarinho, Loureiro, Arinto and Avesso (white varieties) and Borraçal, Brancelho and Alvarelhão (red varieties) are the ones that stand out the most.

Our Partners

Quinta do Soalheiro

Quinta do Soalheiro was founded in 1974 by João António Cerdeira, passionate for the art of winemaking. Innovation reigns in this “small independent family production” company, which was the first estate to plant a continuous plot of Alvarinho vines in Melgaço.

Run by the third generation of the family, Quinta do Soalheiro focuses not only on the production of Alvarinhos and sparkling wines, but also on the production of infusions, while also standing out for its social intervention and regional development.

Quinta do Santiago

In Quinta do Santiago, dedication and family are values that put this company on the map, which has been family-owned since 1899. It opened its doors to the public as a result of Granny Mariazinha’s passion, who dedicated her whole life to wine production, and is currently a project that sees the union of three generations of the family with the aim of highlighting the uniqueness of the Alvarinho grape variety.

With the knowledge of the ancient generations in Quinta do Santiago you will be delighted not only by the unique green landscape, but also by the wide variety of experiences it offers for the whole family: Visits and Tastings, Lunches on the Farm, Picnics and Harvest Experiences.

Quinta do Ameal

At Quinta do Ameal, the presence of nature and tranquillity will contribute to an idyllic and special experience. With records confirming the property’s existence since the 18th century, it is located in Ponte de Lima, where the Loureiro grape variety, one of the most important in Vinho Verde production, is found in abundance.

At this incomparable Wine Estate, you can witness the production process and taste wines made from totally organic grapes, wander around its extensive gardens and spend the night in its family houses.

Quinta da Torre: Anselmo Mendes

The acquisition of Quinta da Torre was born from Anselmo Mendes’ dream, who, since childhood, harvested grapes here and believed it to be the terroir of excellence for Alvarinho.

The property, with 50 hectares of vineyards, has a 15th-century manor house consisting of three towers, one of which houses a cellar from which red wines were sent to England in medieval times.

The construction of the “Alvarinho Experience Center” on this property is another project to consolidate Anselmo Mendes’ work on the noblest of green grape varieties.

Quinta da Covela

Quinta da Covela is located in the sub-region of Baião, in the Vinho Verde region, surrounded by the region’s characteristic green landscape, where the Avesso grape variety reigns.

It was acquired in 2011 by two friends as the fulfilment of a dream, using sustainable techniques not only in the production of the “fascinating and elegant” white and rosé wines, but also in the Quinta’s vegetable gardens and orchards.

With the opening of its wine tourism centre, Quinta da Covela’s main motivation is to present its wines to Portugal and the world.

Carlos Raposo - World Wild Wines

With respect for nature as his philosophy, Carlos Raposo is known in the region of Dão by the production of unique and elegant wines, in which the human intervention is very little, always “using the best that nature gives them”. Eternally in love with nature and working in the wine industry for decades, Carlos Raposo continues to put the region of Dão in the map with his wines.

A&D Wines

With several generations of a very traditional portuguese family in the agricultural activities in the Baião regions, Alexandre Gomes received a legacy connected to its land, people and the countryside activities that always fascinated him.

With a developed vineyard and motivated by the quality of the wines produced, Alexandre and Dialina, his wife, create in 2005 the company A&D Wines and project an expansion in infrastructures and vineyard area.

Located in Baião, the properties Casa do Arrabalde, Quinta dos Espinhosos and Quinta de Santa Teresa are made up of parcels of vineyards from low to medium production, organically cared for and in predominant granitic soils, performing a total of 45 ha of vineyard.

In 2020 the totality of the 45 ha of vineyard got organic certified, therefore making A&D Wines the biggest organic wine producer from the Vinho Verde region.
